Remembering Bette Rendle, Stanhope Dairy Farm, Victoria.
We lost Bette January 14, 1995, only 60 years old, just a few months before BC hosted the National Convention – Come Alive in ’95. Bette was always one to dive in and get things done, as she had shown at the first BC-hosted National Convention in 1983. She would have
turned 90 this summer.
Bette was a tireless organizer and supporter of Holstein organizations
- she served as Secretary of the Vancouver Island Holstein Club for 23 years and was recognized by BC Branch as an Honourary Member. Gordon Sr. and Bette were leaders of the Saanich Holstein 4-H Calf Club for many years – roles which they were well-suited for;
teachers, mentors, encouragers.
Gord Sr. and Bette were a second set of parents to me during my
six years working with the Rendles at Stanhope Dairy in the ‘80’s. Bette had this very simple saying which I came to really appreciate
as I got older: “Try hard and do your best.” Beyond that, we don’t have much control.
Thanks to Gord and Bette for all they invested in me and other young dairy people – leaving a legacy which continues to grow
through the generations.
You can NEVER go wrong, encouraging others to
try hard and do their best.
