                 BC HOLSTEIN BRANCH PRESIDENT
   Thomas
Cuthbert
It has certainly been challenging to be a dairy producer in British Columbia over the past couple years. From floods to drought, wet springs to dry, hot summers, the trials have seemed endless at times. However, if there is one thing I know for sure, it’s that BC dairy producers are resilient and will continue to press on and persevere. With interest rates starting to go down finally, feed prices beginning to stabilize and the price of cattle starting to increase, we can be hopeful for a stronger industry going forward.
Unfortunately, these challenges led to
the cancellation of the 2024 BC Holstein Spring Show, but we look forward to welcoming everyone back next year as we build towards hosting the National Convention in 2026. I’m excited to get back out to the BC Branch Picnic with my family again this year, and other events like the Vancouver Island Holstein show, various 4-H shows and club Breeder’s Cups, that continue to gain momentum post-Covid.
Congratulations to BC-bred WILLSWIKK DUPLEX DION EX-95-5E 3*, owned by Wikkshaven Holsteins, who was nominated for Holstein
Canada’s ‘Cow of the Year’ contest for the second time! Also, congrats to CORLANE HOLSTEINS (AB), on receiving their first Master Breeder Shield. It's a very special experience to be celebrated among your industry peers at the National Convention.
Watch for details on the various events happening around the province this summer and into the fall, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or would like to be a part of the Convention planning committee. See you soon!
table, holding the office of Holstein Canada accountable for their decision- making and being a strong, progressive voice for BC members.
3) Interacting with other National Directors, learning what works and what doesn’t in other areas and gathering new ideas that will generate interest from the next generation in our province.
I am grateful for the opportunity to represent BC Holstein Breeders at Holstein Canada and I encourage all of you to reach out wKitehviannPylaqstuoewsptihoontos or concerns you might have, in regard to the Association, as we move forward together.

I would like to start off by saying “Thank You” to Ben Cuthbert for his nine years of service in the role of BC National Director. He has been a solid, forward- thinking voice for the interests of BC producers during his tenure and has served us well.
While I thought this was an avenue I’d like to pursue someday, I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly; however, now I’m ready to hit the ground running! The National Convention in Hamilton was a spectacular event and we will need ‘all hands on deck’ when BC hosts the Convention in 2026!
I look forward to supporting Board
Committees as a new Director. Holstein Canada continues to further its mission to ‘provide services and programs to meet the diverse needs of producers’ and I look forward to the participation I will have in that mandate
as BC’s National Director by:
1) Staying updated with what’s all going
on with the industry, both at Holstein Canada and across the country and then bringing that information back to BC. I think it’s important to continue to encourage BC producers to use Holstein Canada services to make their herds more efficient and profitable.
2) Having a voice at the Association
