Second Breeders Cup Competition on VI

The Vancouver Island Holstein Club held its second Breeder’s Cup on August 17 and 18, judged by Brian Goertzen. This year’s 11 farms presented a total of 54 entries!
Besides four Holstein classes, we added a Colour Breeds class, recognizing that many farms have added a little “colour” to their herds as well as a way to include other breeds represented on Vancouver Island.
Each farm was allowed to submit two entries per class, which had to be Registered and could not have been shown ‘in milk’ at any show. Although washing and clipping was allowed, toplines were not permitted and entries could have no more than 12 hours of milk.
Brian enjoyed touring through the barns of VI breeders saying, “I really enjoyed visiting each farm and assessing the cattle. I saw some tremendous cows and was looking for great uddered cows that were well-balanced and mobile.”
The largest class was the 3+ Lactation class with 16 entries, where Brian found his eventual Grand Champion, WIKKSHAVEN WINDBROOK DELLA, owned by Wikkshaven Holsteins.
I was excited to see the competition grow this year after the success we had with our inaugural Breeders’ Cup in 2022 and I look forward to the farm-friendly competition’s continued growth!

Jeremy Wikkerink couldn’t be happier than to be holding the Breeders Cup, recently won by one of his favourite Aunty Cindy cows – WIKKSHAVEN WINDBROOK DELLA EX-91 3Y. Yes – she’s scored Excellent as a 3 year old! First calving at 1-10, then 2-10, and started her third lactation at 3-10! Her BCAs currently: 268-315-272. Windbrook Della is the eighth homebred EX, and the second having Cindy’s Wikkshaven prefix. Second dam, Duplex Dion, and fourth dam,
